Modified Jackpot Class Rules

Ride a Buck (Classes 1 & 2)

Rider must ride bareback (no saddle or pad), hold a dollar bill under their thigh and follow the announcer’s commands.  The rider who keeps the dollar the longest (without repositioning with hands) wins!

Egg & Spoon (Classes 3 & 4)

Each rider will be given a spoon and a hard boiled egg.  Rider must balance the egg on the spoon while following the announcer’s commands.  Rider cannot touch egg with fingers or any part of hand once it is on the spoon.  The rider who keeps their egg on the spoon the longest wins!

Musical Chairs (Classes 5 & 6)

Riders will ride at a walk as they hear music playing, when the music stops, the rider must dismount and find an empty chair to sit in while leading their horse.  There will always be one less chair than the number of riders in the ring.  One horse/rider combination will be eliminated each time the music stops.  When the music starts again, the riders must mount their horse and begin riding at a walk.  Each time the music starts, one more chair is removed until there is only one chair left which will determine the winner.

Suitcase Race (Classes 7 & 8)

A suitcase with 5 items inside will be placed on the far end of the arena.  Rider must race to the suitcase, dismount, open the suitcase and put on all articles found inside.  Once all 5 items are on the rider, they must mount their horse, and race out.

Catalog Race (Classes 9 & 10)

A large catalog will be placed on the far end of the arena on top of a barrel.  Each rider will be given a page number and they will have to race to the catalog, dismount their horse, find that particular page, tear it out, mount their horse, and race out.  (Wrong page number is a DQ.)

Root Beer Race (Classes 11 & 12)

A small cup filled with some type of pop will be placed on top of a barrel on the far end of the arena.  Each rider will race to the barrel, dismount, drink the entire cup of pop, mount their horse, and race out.

Potato Race (Classes 13 & 14)

Rider must race to far end of arena, grab a potato out of bucket on the barrel, run towards the finish line, drop the potato into the bucket and race out.  (If potato doesn’t make it in the bucket or bounces out of the bucket, it is a DQ)

Ribbon Race (Classes 15 & 16) (Requires 2 horse & rider combinations)

Each partner is given an end of a piece of ribbon.  They must navigate both horses side by side down to the far end of the arena, around one barrel, and back out without either rider losing their end of the ribbon.  (Dropping of the ribbon by either rider is considered a DQ.)

Plug Race (Classes 17 & 18)

Rider must race to the far end of the arena, around the barrel (from either direction) and race back out.  (Knocking over barrel is a 5 second penalty.)

Barrels (Classes 19 & 20)

Rider must complete cloverleaf pattern with 3 barrels by either making one right turn then two left turns or one left turn and two right turns.  (Broken pattern is a DQ.  There is a 5 second penalty for each knocked over barrel.)

Around the Ring (Classes 21 & 22)

Rider must go around the outside of 3 barrels and race back out. (There is a 5 second penalty for each knocked over barrel.)

Midwest Flags (Classes 23 & 24)

Rider runs to either the left or right (rider preference) grabbing the flag located in the pail on the 1st barrel, round the barrel at the far end and proceed to the remaining barrel placing the flag in the bucket, then race out.  (Broken pattern or dropped flag is DQ.  There is a 5 second penalty for each knocked over barrel.)

Straight Barrels (Classes 25 & 26)

A straight line is formed with 3 barrels across the ring.  Ride must start on either side of the middle barrel and make a bow tie pattern.  The last barrel you round before racing out will be the middle barrel.  (Broken pattern is a DQ.  There is a 5 second penalty for each knocked over barrel.)

Pole Bending (Classes 27 & 28)

Rider must run up side of poles (either side) to far end, weave poles down and back, then run back on opposite side.  (Broken pattern is a DQ.  There is a 3 second penalty for each knocked over pole.)

Keyhole (Classes 29 & 30)

Run into the keyhole (pattern of white lines), turn around and run back out.  (Stepping on a line is a DQ.)

Switch a Rider (Class 31) (Requires 1 horse & 2 Riders)

Second rider will stand at far end of arena, first rider races to the 2nd rider, dismounts, 2nd rider then mounts horse and races out.

Rescue Race (Class 32) (Requires 1 horse & 2 Riders)

Partner stands on mounting block at the far end of the arena, rider races down to partner, partner mounts behind 1st rider and races out.
